Army Troops Rescue Six Kidnap Victims Following Fierce Gun Duel With Bandits In Katsina

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade have rescued six kidnap victims, including four women and two children, after they escaped from suspected bandits in Katsina State.

KATSINA – Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued six kidnap victims in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State after they escaped from their abductors.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Capt. Abayomi Adisa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Katsina.

According to Adisa, the rescue occurred on June 29 when troops deployed at Unguwan Doka, while conducting a routine foot patrol, found the victims wandering in the bush after escaping from suspected armed bandits.

He identified the rescued victims as Mrs. Umaima Isiaku (30), Amina Isiaku (16), Safiya Isiaku (15), Ramatu Suleiman (30), Muhammad Shehu (4) and Ibrahim Suleiman (2).

The victims comprise four women and two male children.

Adisa said preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted on June 22 by suspected armed bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

He explained that the troops immediately administered first aid, provided the victims with food and other essential support before reuniting them with their families.

The army spokesperson said the operation reflects the military’s continued commitment to protecting communities and responding swiftly to security threats across the state.

According to him, the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the brigade’s determination to sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility.

He added that the commander reassured residents of the brigade’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through intensified security operations.
