Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after dismantling a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP roadblock and repelling a terrorist attack along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.
MAIDUGURI – Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after dismantling a roadblock mounted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The successful operation was carried out on Wednesday by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector II of Operation HADIN KAI as part of ongoing offensive operations against insurgent groups in Nigeria’s North-East.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Maiduguri by the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.
According to Goni, troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the movement of suspected terrorists mounting the illegal roadblock through surveillance cameras, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to the location.
The troops swiftly engaged the insurgents, pursuing them toward the Mangari–Dora general area, where a firefight ensued.
The military spokesman said the terrorists were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower and fled the scene.
“During the operation, 53 innocent civilians were rescued and eight vehicles earlier seized by the terrorists were recovered.
“The troops also advanced to clear the insurgents’ withdrawal route, dominated the area and conducted further searches, although no additional contact was made,” Goni stated.
He added that the rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other property were safely evacuated to Buratai, while the victims were undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
Goni commended the swift response and professionalism of the troops, describing the mission as another significant success in the military’s sustained campaign against insurgency in the North-East.
He urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
According to the military, the security situation in the area has remained calm following the operation, while troops continue to maintain aggressive patrols and operational dominance across the theatre in a bid to deny terrorists freedom of movement and protect civilian communities.
