The Presidency celebrates a massive infrastructure boom in Ebonyi State, praising Governor Nwifuru for using boosted federal FAAC revenues to fund grand zero-borrowing capital projects.
The Presidency has expressed absolute satisfaction with the rapid execution of multi-billion Naira capital developments across Ebonyi State, declaring the region a shining example of how subnational governments can leverage federal economic reforms to achieve unprecedented physical transformation.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, following the successful completion of the South East leg of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, highly commended the Ebonyi State Government for its visionary leadership.
Onanuga noted that under the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru, Ebonyi has progressively transitioned into a zero-borrowing development model, funding massive, long-term state assets entirely out of pocket due to the heavily inflated Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenues injected into states by President Bola Tinubu’s macroeconomic adjustments.
A major centerpiece of the joint federal and state infrastructure evaluation was the sprawling 4.61-kilometer signature infrastructure corridor in Abakaliki.
The complex 28.45 billion Naira urban decongestion facility-comprising an elevated twin flyover bridge and a one-kilometer underground tunnel at the highly critical Vanco Junction-has advanced to over 70 percent completion under the supervision of indigenous engineering teams.
The presidential communication team, which inspected the site alongside senior state officials, noted a staggering aesthetic and structural upgrade at the corridor compared to its raw state in late 2025. Additionally, the delegation toured the massive state-owned Ebonyi Five-Star Hotel in the capital city, a soaring multi-storey hospitality landmark that the Nwifuru administration creatively re-engineered from the long-dormant skeletal structures of the abandoned Ebonyi Trade Centre.
“Ebonyi State is dreaming big and doing big things without having to go to the bank to borrow money. In the past, after collecting allocations and paying civil servants, the state barely had 100 to 200 million Naira left for capital development. Today, federal funds are actively working on the ground.” – Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President
The extensive media tour, organized by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors in close coordination with the State House media apparatus, also highlighted deep rural-urban integration and educational modernization. The panel below breaks down the key legacy projects verified by the inspection team:
The delegation, which also included the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Chief Sunday Dare, rounded off the tracking exercise by paying a high-profile courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Eze Charles Mkpuma (the Ezebrugbala III of Ezzama Kingdom), reinforcing President Tinubu’s institutional respect for traditional authorities.
From inspecting the fully equipped Elengvubu General Hospital to examining the tech-driven infrastructure of the Kpakpaji Smart School and the Ebonyi State University of ICT in Okperekpe, the Presidency maintained that the ongoing synergy between local execution and federal funding proves that the administration’s national renewal policy is delivering undeniable economic relief and physical assets straight to the grassroots.
