Governor Peter Mbah celebrates an absolute triumph over violent crime in Enugu State following a major joint operation that neutralized a dangerous network and recovered massive arsenals.
In a major joint operation that signals a crushing defeat for organized crime in the South-East, security agencies in Enugu State have captured six notorious criminals on the state’s most-wanted watch list while seizing a massive cache of military-grade weapons and tactical gear.
The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, inspected the extensive haul at the Enugu State head office of the Department of State Services on Friday, confirming that the apprehended suspects include key perpetrators of recent deadly security breaches that claimed the lives of security personnel.
During the high-stakes briefing, the Governor stood alongside the State Director of the DSS, Mr. Humphery Ohikhuare, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, and the Garrison Commander of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Garba Suru, to showcase the reclaimed armaments.
The impressive inventory features 17 AK-47 rifles, a General Purpose Machine Gun, a rocket-propelled rifle, a tear-gas gun, two hand grenades, three tear-gas canisters, and 1,071 rounds of highly specialized ammunition, effectively dismantling the operational capacity of the targeted syndicate.
Lauding the exceptional gallantry of the inter-agency forces, Governor Mbah declared the breakthrough as a triumphant milestone for public safety and absolute law enforcement vigilance across Enugu.
Recalling a tragic incident in December of the previous year where security officers paid the ultimate price, the Governor noted that the government’s strategic placement of bounties and persistent tracking operations have finally closed that dark chapter, ensuring that the fugitive elements face total judicial accountability.
“Those who have been apprehended today were among the suspects who had remained on the run. Their arrest sends a clear message that crime will not go unpunished in Enugu State,” he said.
He strongly emphasized that his administration’s substantial financial investments in cutting-edge digital tracking infrastructure and proactive intelligence operations are paying off continuously, granting residents the peace of mind to sleep safely while crimes are quietly nipped in the bud by vigilant personnel.
Issuing a definitive marching order to any remaining lawless elements within the state’s territory, Governor Mbah warned that Enugu maintains zero tolerance for violence, promising that any individual who commits a crime will be relentlessly pursued, identified, and brought to justice regardless of how long they remain on the run.
To prevent criminals from embedding themselves in local communities, the Governor placed an explicit responsibility on property owners to execute exhaustive background checks on all prospective tenants, reiterating that the state will rigorously prosecute negligent landlords and demolish buildings tied to violent operations.
Furthermore, as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Revamp of Security Training Institutions, Mbah highly praised President Bola Tinubu for releasing vital federal funds to modernize national security academies and expressed strong support for the newly passed State Police Bill by the House of Representatives, calling it a crucial step for states to claim full, effective responsibility over their local borders.
