Senate President Godswill Akpabio rallies Nigerians for Democracy Day, demanding active citizen participation and youth leadership to safeguard the nation’s 27-year democratic journey.

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has passionately implored Nigerians to champion national unity, heightened vigilance, and unwavering civic participation as the federation commemorates 27 years of unbroken democratic governance.

In a powerful Democracy Day message released in Abuja on Friday through his spokesperson, Eseme Eyibo, the head of the legislature described Nigeria’s prolonged democratic journey as a profound testament to collective endurance following decades of systemic agitation.

Acknowledging that the nation’s political evolution has been marred by critical structural errors, Akpabio fiercely commended the resilience of the populace for sustaining democratic ideals despite numerous disappointing lows, asserting that the country will ultimately reach its socioeconomic destination if public cooperation is maintained.

In a direct charge to the electorate, the Senate President warned citizens to remain steadfast in their democratic convictions and actively resist insidious attempts by reactionary elements seeking to derail institutional progress.

He argued that true democratic governance must transcend the mere ritual of casting ballots, demanding that the system be firmly rooted in strict accountability, judicial equity, genuine compassion, and an unyielding commitment to the public good.

Akpabio directed a special appeal toward the younger generation, insisting that robust youth participation in political and decision-making processes is absolutely non-negotiable since the youth form the indispensable foundation of leadership succession.

Addressing the severe security crises crippling various regions of the country, the Senate President begged Nigerians to put aside partisan or regional differences and actively cooperate with state apparatuses to crush the security challenges threatening national stability.

He reassured the public that the 10th National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu’s administration are completely aligned in their resolve to dismantle networks of terrorism and secure the absolute freedom of all citizens currently held in captivity.

Recognizing the profound socio-economic pain felt across households, Akpabio promised that the federal government is deploying exhaustive measures to reverse the downward trend, declaring that absolute national transformation is achievable through continuous civic engagement and a unified front against terror.
