The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has approved the immediate dissolution of the council’s executive cabinet and all political appointments in a sweeping administrative restructuring.
The decision, which took effect immediately, was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, by the Chairman’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki.
According to the statement, the dissolution affects the Council Secretary, all Supervisory Councillors, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Personal Assistants serving under the current administration.
Madaki said the move forms part of ongoing administrative decisions by the council leadership, although no specific reason was provided for the dissolution.
Despite the development, Maikalangu expressed appreciation to the outgoing cabinet members and political aides for their service, dedication and contributions to the growth and development of the council.
The AMAC chairman commended the affected officials for their commitment and the achievements recorded during their tenure, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
He also directed all affected appointees to immediately hand over official documents, council assets and other government property in their possession to the Head of Administration or the most senior career officer in their respective departments.
The directive is expected to ensure a smooth administrative transition and maintain continuity in council operations pending further appointments by the chairman.
The latest development marks a significant shift within the AMAC administration and signals the beginning of a new phase in the council’s governance structure.
