President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the UN General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration, describing the appointment as a recognition of his experience in governance, diplomacy and fiscal management.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Jimoh Ibrahim on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee, one of the United Nations’ most important committees responsible for budgetary and administrative matters.
In a congratulatory message, President Tinubu described the election as a significant achievement for both Ambassador Ibrahim and Nigeria, particularly at a time when the United Nations is pursuing major financial realignments and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening accountability, effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
The President noted that Ibrahim’s emergence as chairman shortly after assuming office as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations reflects the confidence reposed in him by the international community and validates his extensive experience in public service, governance, diplomacy and business leadership.
According to Tinubu, Ibrahim’s previous service as a member of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations has equipped him with the expertise required to lead the committee at a critical period for the global body.
“Your election to chair this important committee within weeks of official resumption at the UN validates your wealth of experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership and governance,” the President said.
Tinubu further highlighted Ibrahim’s background as a legal scholar with expertise in international taxation and business administration, describing his knowledge of global governance and financial systems as a valuable asset to the committee’s work.
The President said Ibrahim has consistently demonstrated strong intellectual capacity and a deep understanding of fiscal management, institutional efficiency and sustainable development, qualities he believes will contribute significantly to the committee’s responsibilities.
Expressing confidence in the Nigerian envoy’s ability to excel in the role, Tinubu stated that Ibrahim’s experience and commitment to excellence would justify the confidence placed in him and further enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.
He added that the appointment aligns with Nigeria’s broader objective of contributing meaningfully to global governance and supporting the reform agenda of the United Nations.
The President also expressed optimism that Ambassador Ibrahim would provide the strategic leadership required to guide the committee’s work and support the broader goals of the United Nations during a period of evolving global challenges.
Tinubu concluded by congratulating the ambassador on what he described as a remarkable achievement and commended the international community for the confidence shown in his leadership abilities.
The United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee plays a central role in overseeing the organisation’s budgetary, financial and administrative policies, making its chairmanship one of the most influential leadership positions within the UN system.
