Following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 NNL season, Coach Idris steps down from his role at the Ado-Ekiti club despite a record-breaking 100% home win ratio.
The Head Coach of Ekiti United Football Club, Bolarinwa Idris, has officially stepped down from his managerial position following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The highly regarded tactician formally submitted his resignation letter to the club’s secretary, Mr. Bolu Idowu, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti, bringing an end to an impactful tenure with the state-owned football club.
Under the guidance of Coach Idris, Ekiti United enjoyed a highly competitive and disciplined NNL campaign, finishing third in their conference.
While the team narrowly missed out on securing promotion to the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Idris’s tactical blueprints earned widespread admiration across the domestic football ecosystem.
Notably, he distinguished himself as the only manager in the entire NNL division to maintain a flawless 100% home record throughout the season, winning all nine matches played on home soil to claim the maximum points available.
In his official departure letter, Idris expressed deep gratitude to the Ekiti State Government for giving him the platform to contribute to the growth of sports in the state. He specifically lauded the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Olusola Osetoba, for her administrative support and commitment to the welfare of the squad during the challenging season.
Reflecting on his time with the team, Coach Idris emphasized that the success achieved was a product of collective unity:
“This chapter is over with Ekiti United FC and I am proud of what we achieved together from the first day to the end of the season. Football is a collective effort, and I must appreciate everyone I worked with. The players gave everything for the badge, the staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes and the fans stood by us through the highs and lows. I will always be grateful for the support I received,” his resignation statement read.
Despite intense speculation within the local sports media linking him to vacant head coaching positions at several top-tier NPFL and NNL clubs ahead of the upcoming football season, Idris kept his cards close to his chest regarding his next career move.
He confirmed that while preliminary discussions are ongoing with a few clubs, no concrete contract agreements have been signed. The departing manager stated that he intends to use the current off-season window to rest and reflect before making his next professional destination public.
