After receiving over 11 million endorsements for his 2027 re-election bid and commissioning new naval vessels, President Bola Tinubu returns to the capital to resume core state duties.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following an extended Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos State.

During his stay in the nation’s commercial hub, the President carried out a series of high-profile political, administrative, and diplomatic engagements. The presidential jet touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at exactly 5:17 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The Commander-in-Chief was received upon arrival by a high-level government team led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. Other top officials on the tarmac included the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Tunji Disu.

Throughout the festive break, the President’s Lagos residence served as a hub for traditional Sallah homage visits. He hosted Vice President Kashim Shettima alongside the leadership of the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He also held strategic meetings with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) under the chairmanship of Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as well as an APC delegation from Oyo State led by its former gubernatorial candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.

On Monday, the President shifted his focus to national defense and international diplomacy:

President Tinubu on Monday attended the International Fleet Review at Eko Atlantic City Waterfront as part of activities commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy. He commissioned three Nigerian Naval vessels: NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila, and NNS Gurara on the occasion.

On the same day, the President also received His Excellency Romuald Wadagni, President of the Republic of Benin, in a meeting that reinforced the longstanding bond of friendship, regional cooperation, and economic partnership between the neighbouring countries.

The trip also carried immense political weight ahead of the 2027 general elections. Before the Sallah holidays, President Tinubu participated directly in the nationwide All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, casting his ballot at his Lagos constituency.

The internal party exercises across the 36 states and the FCT culminated in a massive political victory for the incumbent, as close to 11 million registered party members voted to overwhelmingly endorse him as the APC’s official presidential torchbearer for the upcoming 2027 election.
