The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected circulating primary election results in Enugu State as fake, insisting that official outcomes remain under party custody pending formal announcement.
The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake the purported results of its primary elections in Enugu State circulating on social media.
The party, however, maintained that it successfully conducted its primary elections across the state through a process it described as free, fair, and transparent.
Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Sunday, National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Morgan, said the primaries held on Friday were conducted using the direct voting system.
According to Morgan, the exercise enabled eligible party members to vote for candidates seeking nomination for elective offices including the presidency, governorship, senate, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats.
He stated that the exercise complied with provisions of the Electoral Act and the constitution of the party.
Morgan further explained that the primaries were supervised by the party’s National Electoral Committee from Abuja and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He described the process as orderly and transparent, adding that the collation and verification of votes had already been concluded.
According to him, the official results remain with the appropriate party authorities and would only be released through recognised constitutional channels.
Morgan warned aspirants, party supporters, and the public against relying on unofficial reports circulating on social media, blogs, and other unverified platforms.
He stressed that no official declaration had been made by either the National Electoral Committee or the national leadership of the party.
The NDC official said any individual or platform claiming to possess or announce official results was acting without authorisation.
He assured aspirants of transparency and due process, adding that names of successful candidates would be formally submitted to INEC after completion of internal ratification and administrative procedures.
The controversy follows the circulation of unofficial lists on Friday by some social media platforms claiming to contain results of the party’s Enugu primaries.
The disputed results were reportedly linked to a faction led by JohnPaul Anih, which claims to represent the authentic leadership of the party in Enugu State.
The NDC national leadership has, however, distanced itself from the faction and reaffirmed Ibuchukwu Obetta as the recognised chairman of the party in the state.
