Education: President Tinubu Commissions TETFund-Funded Infrastructure Across Nigeria

Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has commissioned major education infrastructure projects across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions under TETFund support, aimed at strengthening education capacity, improving learning environments, and expanding institutional development nationwide.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned a series of new tertiary education infrastructure projects across Nigeria as part of nationwide activities marking his administration’s third anniversary.

The projects, executed under the Federal Ministry of Education and funded through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), span multiple institutions across the North Central, North West, and North East regions.

At the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga, the President inaugurated a newly constructed School of Science Complex. The facility includes reading areas, e-libraries, administrative offices, and academic support sections designed to strengthen teacher training in science education.

At the Nigerian Defence Academy, Afaka Campus, Kaduna State, two major projects were commissioned: a remodelled Senate Building and a Biodiversity and Conservation Centre. The Senate Building features modern governance and security infrastructure, including a 60-seat chamber, conference suites, solar backup systems, and integrated safety installations. The conservation centre is intended to boost research in environmental science and biodiversity studies.

In Jigawa State, at Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, a newly built classroom complex was commissioned under the 2024 TETFund Special High Impact Intervention. The facility addresses classroom shortages and is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions for students in technical and vocational disciplines.

At Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau Campus, Bauchi State, a newly completed student hostel was also inaugurated under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention. The facility is expected to ease accommodation pressure and improve student welfare on campus.

President Tinubu emphasized that education remains central to national development and economic transformation, stressing that investments in tertiary institutions are key to bridging Nigeria’s skills gap.

He noted that strengthening education infrastructure would determine the quality of future learning outcomes, adding that teacher training institutions, polytechnics, and universities must remain a priority in national planning.

The President also highlighted the importance of military education infrastructure at the Nigerian Defence Academy, stating that such institutions play a critical role in shaping national security capacity and leadership development.

He further described polytechnics as essential to developing technical manpower for the economy, stressing the need for continued investment in practical training facilities and academic resources.

Tinubu commended the Minister of Education, TETFund leadership, contractors, and institutional administrators for delivering the projects, urging beneficiaries to properly maintain and utilize the new facilities.

The commissioning exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving education infrastructure through sustained partnerships with TETFund and state institutions.
