A lone crash on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway has claimed the life of an SUV driver, prompting renewed safety warnings from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority over speeding and reckless driving.
A lone vehicular crash on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Saturday claimed the life of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) driver, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The incident occurred at Charity Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo in Lagos, where emergency responders carried out rescue and traffic management operations following the accident.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in a statement, noting that officers of the agency worked alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to secure the scene and restore traffic flow.
According to preliminary findings, the Honda Pilot SUV involved in the crash reportedly lost control before overturning and coming to a stop along the expressway.
Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officials on routine traffic monitoring patrol in the Iyana Isolo corridor responded swiftly after receiving reports of the incident.
He explained that officers of LASTMA and the Mosafejo Police Division coordinated recovery efforts and managed vehicular movement around the affected area to prevent secondary accidents and ease congestion.
The remains of the deceased were later evacuated by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit in accordance with public health procedures, while the damaged vehicle was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to observe traffic regulations and remain cautious, particularly during late-night and early-morning journeys when visibility and road conditions may increase driving risks.
He warned against excessive speeding, reckless driving, and unsafe overtaking, stressing that road safety should remain a priority for all motorists.
The LASTMA boss further emphasised that no journey is worth endangering lives through dangerous driving practices.
