Horror as Suspected Cross River Serial Killer Is Arrested Over Alleged Multiple Murders

Security operatives in Cross River State have arrested a suspected Cross River serial killer, Akaninyene, after shallow graves containing headless bodies were allegedly discovered in a forest hideout in Odukpani LGA.

Residents of Creektown in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State have been thrown into fear and shock following the arrest of a suspected serial killer identified as Akaninyene over alleged involvement in multiple murders within the community.

The suspect was reportedly arrested after intelligence reports linked him to the disappearance and killing of several persons in the area.

Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army and tactical special forces, were said to have tracked the suspect to a remote hut located inside a forest in Abanyama, Ukim Ita Community.

According to reports from the community, the suspect allegedly attempted to escape after trying to retrieve a weapon from the hideout but was overpowered and apprehended by security operatives during the operation.

A search of the secluded camp reportedly led to the discovery of eight shallow graves containing bodies buried without heads. Sources alleged that plantain crops had been planted over the graves in an attempt to conceal the crime scene.

The development has sparked widespread outrage and panic among residents, many of whom had reportedly raised concerns over mysterious disappearances in the area over time.

During interrogation, Akaninyene allegedly confessed to killing about 30 persons in the community. He also reportedly disclosed that a female accomplice assisted in luring victims before they were allegedly murdered.

Community sources disclosed that suspicion intensified after the latest alleged incident, said to have occurred on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, when residents reportedly heard cries and sounds of struggle believed to have come from a victim.

The Cross River serial killer incident prompted community leaders and youths to alert security authorities, leading to the operation that resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in Cross River State, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the incident is still being verified by the police.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations as residents call for justice and stronger security measures across affected communities in the state.
