Rivers 2027: Ambassador Blessing Fubara Enters Gubernatorial Race On NDC Platform

Fubara

Seeking to succeed his brother, the younger Fubara pledges to preserve the state’s traditional power-sharing zoning model by serving only a single four-year term.

The political landscape of Rivers State has taken a highly unexpected turn ahead of the 2027 general elections as Ambassador Blessing Fubara, the younger brother of the incumbent Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, officially declared his intention to run for the governorship seat.

Making his ambition known through an official press statement released in Abuja on Thursday, May 28, 2026, the younger Fubara announced that he will be seeking the ticket under the platform of the opposition Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

He positioned himself as a ready, competent, and highly energetic candidate determined to rescue a state he described as “distressed and shortchanged.”

A defining anchor of Ambassador Fubara’s declaration is his firm commitment to the state’s unwritten political rotation and zoning system. To ensure equity among the various senatorial blocks, the aspirant pledged to serve for only a single four-year term if elected.

This single-term promise is strategically calculated to complete the standard eight-year leadership window originally allocated to the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, maintaining a geopolitical balance across the maritime and upland communities.

The aspirant lamented what he categorized as a sharp decline in Rivers State’s economic dominance, pointing to a loss of major corporate investments, diminishing grassroots opportunities, and an erosion of dignity for local citizens under recent administrative gridlocks.

Calling for a peaceful, cross-party political awakening across all 23 local government areas, Fubara maintained that changing or disrupting the established leadership rotation formula would set a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the state’s fragile political peace.

“Today, we see a Rivers that is distressed, shortchanged, and almost seeming like a conquered state, but we are not a conquered people. Altering the rotation of leadership and governance in the state will set a very wrong and dangerous precedent. Therefore, I offer myself to serve a single four-year term to complete the eight-year tenure of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District,” Ambassador Blessing Fubara insisted.

The entry of the Governor’s brother into the race introduces an interesting dynamic to Rivers politics, coming at a time when the state’s political apparatus remains fragmented by deep-seated fractional clashes.

While political analysts are closely studying the implications of two members of the same family navigating high-stakes gubernatorial platforms simultaneously, Ambassador Fubara urged voters to look beyond sentimental alignments.

He emphasized that his campaign is built entirely on restoring economic productivity and ensuring long-term political stability for the people of the state.
