The African Democratic Congress celebrates a Federal High Court ruling on primary deadlines, calling it a major vindication of its stance against restrictive guidelines.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly welcomed a landmark ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding the statutory deadlines for party primaries and related electoral guidelines.

In an official press statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party expressed immense satisfaction with the judicial outcome, viewing the verdict as a total, unyielding vindication of its long-standing objections to critical aspects of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) regulatory guidelines when they were initially introduced.

The party recalled its vigorous past opposition to what it described as overly strict and counterproductive timelines placed on political membership registration and the scheduling of internal party primaries.

According to the statement, the definitive decision of the court on these contentious issues-especially regarding guidelines that directly contradict the clear provisions of the Nigerian Constitution-serves as a highly welcome vindication of the party’s principled democratic position.

The ADC further explained that the progressive court ruling, which effectively dismantled administrative impediments placed by the electoral umpire on politicians seeking alternative platforms to contest elections, represents a major triumph that will significantly promote the constitutional right to freedom of association across the country.

Asserting that the strict regulatory restrictions were originally designed to frustrate cross-carpeting and stop disgruntled politicians from leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the ADC confidently added that now that the judiciary has decisively ruled against the commission’s guidelines, the nation will witness a massive exodus of high-profile political figures from the ruling party in the coming days.
