The Ebonyi State Police Command achieves a major breakthrough by smashing a notorious cross-border motorcycle-snatching syndicate and recovering 11 stolen bikes.
In a spectacular triumph for regional security and proactive policing, the Ebonyi State Police Command has completely dismantled a highly organized motorcycle-snatching syndicate whose criminal operations spanned across multiple states.
The major operational breakthrough, which culminated in the recovery of 11 stolen motorcycles, was officially made public on Monday in Abakaliki through a detailed press statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu.
According to the official dispatch, the Commissioner of Police for Ebonyi State, Mrs. Hope Okafor, revealed that the successful crackdown was triggered by a distress report filed at the Central Police Station in Abakaliki by a citizen, Ifeanyi Eze, who reported the audacious theft of his personal motorcycle.
The initial investigation revealed that the victim’s motorcycle had been craftily stolen from a commercial bank’s premises located way across state lines in Ikom, Cross River State. Leveraging actionable intelligence and digital tracking gathered during the preliminary inquiry, crack police operatives swiftly moved in and arrested a prime suspect identified as Emmanuel Anaeto.
Deep forensic drilling quickly uncovered that this specific individual functioned as a critical hub for the syndicate, specializing in purchasing freshly stolen bikes from field thieves before cleverly refurbishing and reselling them to completely unsuspecting members of the general public.
Following this initial arrest, a painstaking, intelligence-driven dragnet allowed state operatives to track down the network’s hidden inventories, leading to the successful retrieval of 11 motorcycles that had been stolen at various intervals from multiple locations across both Ebonyi and Cross River states.
Highlighting this impressive security victory, Commissioner Okafor extended an open invitation to residents who have recently lost their motorbikes to theft, urging them to visit the Central Police Station in Abakaliki with authentic proof of ownership to identify and reclaim their property, while reaffirming the command’s relentless resolve to hunt down the remaining remnants of the shattered criminal network.
