A youth, Abubakar Haruna, has lost his life in Potiskum, Yobe State, after being violently struck by a speeding motorcycle performing dangerous stunts within a wedding convoy.
A tragic road accident in Potiskum, Yobe State, has claimed the life of a young man, Abubakar Haruna, during a local bride conveyance celebration. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, has renewed intense community concerns over reckless behavior and dangerous motorcycle stunts by youths during social ceremonies.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of young men escorting a bride rode their motorcycles in an aggressive manner through a busy part of the town, traveling at high speeds and performing risky maneuvers with little regard for pedestrians.
The brother of the deceased, Muhammad Haruna, confirmed the heartbreaking details of the accident to newsmen. He explained that the celebratory atmosphere turned fatal in a matter of seconds as the convoy reached a crowded section of the road.
Abubakar was standing peacefully by the roadside when one of the stunt riders lost control and struck him violently on the head.
The force of the impact caused the victim to lose his balance and plunge into a nearby concrete drainage channel.
Immediate Fatality: “Before anyone could help him, he had already died from the injuries,” Muhammad stated, describing the loss as sudden and entirely preventable.
Residents and community leaders in Potiskum-one of the most populated commercial hubs in Yobe State-expressed deep sadness and outrage over the incident. They noted that dangerous motorcycle displays have become an unwelcome norm at local weddings, routinely putting innocent bystanders at risk.
“This is not just painful for our family, it is something that should never have happened. If government does not act now, more innocent lives may be lost through carelessness and indiscipline.” – Muhammad Haruna, Brother of the Deceased
The bereaved family has demanded immediate justice, insisting that the rider responsible for the accident must be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted by law enforcement agencies to serve as a deterrence. Furthermore, residents are calling on the Yobe State government and traffic compliance agencies to enforce strict safety regulations banning dangerous convoy stunts during public festivities.
