Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has celebrated the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, on his 85th birthday anniversary, describing him as a pillar of the Igbo nation and a symbol of wisdom and leadership.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe, on the occasion of his 85th birthday anniversary, commending his immense contributions to nation building and the advancement of the Igbo nation.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Enugu by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ezechi Chukwu.
According to the statement, the organisation joined millions of admirers, sons and daughters of Alaigbo, friends of the Onitsha Kingdom and well-wishers across the globe in celebrating the revered monarch.
Ohanaeze noted that the reign of Alfred Achebe, also known as Agbogidi, had brought honour not only to the ancient Onitsha Kingdom but also to the entire Igbo nation and Nigeria as a whole.
The organisation praised the traditional ruler for his commitment to peace, justice, equity, cultural renaissance, national unity and the promotion of the Igbo cause.
According to the statement, through exemplary leadership, intellectual depth and fatherly guidance, the monarch has remained a shining light and moral compass for generations.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide also commended his service in both corporate and traditional institutions, alongside his advocacy for good governance and societal harmony.
The statement quoted the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Azuta Mbata, as applauding the monarch for his unwavering support and encouragement to the organisation over the years.
Mbata described the Obi of Onitsha as “one of the foremost pillars of the Igbo nation” whose wisdom, patriotism and steadfast support for Ohanaeze had continued to strengthen the collective resolve towards the unity, progress and dignity of Ndigbo.
He added that the organisation remained grateful for the monarch’s leadership and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian federation.
Ohanaeze further prayed for more fruitful years for Alfred Achebe in good health, wisdom, peace and strength as he continues to serve humanity and uphold the cherished values of the people.
