Governor Peter Mbah has commissioned a state-of-the-art Council Secretariat and Chairman’s Office in Awgu LGA, hailing the project as a vital administrative engine for regional progress and modern governance.
The echoes of the Enugu West Mega Endorsement Rally continue to resonate across the state, not only for the massive political support declared for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah but for the significant infrastructural milestones reached during the event.
Highlighting the day’s activities, Governor Mbah officially unveiled the newly transformed Awgu Council Secretariat and commissioned a modern Council Chairman’s Office, both executed by the Hon. Uchenna Okolo-led administration.
During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mbah described the upgraded facilities as a befitting administrative hub designed to catalyze development within the Awgu Local Government Area. The Governor noted that such structures are essential for bringing the presence of government closer to the grassroots and ensuring that administrative processes are handled with the highest level of professionalism.
Providing further context on the project, the Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity to the Council Chairman, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, characterized the initiative as a strategic move to restore dignity and efficiency to local governance.
He revealed that the previous structures had reached a state of severe deterioration, which hindered the functionality of the local administrative system and failed to meet the demands of a modern workspace.
“The Chairman believes that governance must be driven from a system that works,” Chukwu stated. “The condition of the secretariat before now was not only discouraging but also unbefitting of a modern local government.
This necessitated a comprehensive facelift to reflect the standard our people truly deserve.” He further explained that technical evaluations had confirmed the old Chairman’s Office was beyond salvage, making the construction of a new complex a matter of safety and operational necessity.
The transformation project was designed with sustainability and modern needs in mind, moving beyond mere aesthetics. According to the media aide, the new facility incorporates several key features:
- Renewable Energy: Solar power solutions to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply.
- Water Security: A solar-powered borehole to provide consistent water access for the complex.
- Modern Systems: Full installation of contemporary office equipment and air-conditioning systems to enhance staff productivity.
This intervention aligns closely with Governor Mbah’s broader infrastructural development blueprint, which encourages local governments to modernize public institutions. By creating a conducive environment for civil servants, the Awgu administration aims to ensure that effective service delivery becomes a hallmark of its leadership, mirroring the transformative vision currently being implemented at the state level.
