INEC Resumes Vital Continuous Voter Registration In Oyo State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Oyo State, offering a final window for eligible citizens to prepare for the 2027 General Elections.

Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalized plans to resume the third phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across all 33 local government areas in Oyo State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State, Prof. Adeniran Tella, confirmed on Wednesday that the exercise is scheduled to begin on May 11 and will run through July 10, 2026. This phase is critical for ensuring that the state’s voter roll is up to date before the upcoming electoral cycle.

The registration process will cater to both new registrants and existing voters who require updates to their records. According to the commission, the exercise will include online pre-registration via the official INEC portal, followed by physical biometric capture at designated centers.

To ensure maximum coverage, INEC Voter Enrollment Device (IVED) machines will be deployed on a rotational basis across all 33 registration areas. The exercise will be conducted daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding weekends and public holidays.

Prof. Tella emphasized that this window is not just for first-time voters, but also for those needing to update their information. He urged citizens to utilize this period for essential services such as polling unit transfers for voters who have relocated, as well as the correction of personal data like names or dates of birth. Furthermore, the REC highlighted that many Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected at commission offices and urged owners to claim them within this stipulated timeframe.

This third phase aligns with the 2026 approved electoral timetable, which has already set the stage for the 2027 polls.

Under the newly enacted legal frameworks, INEC is intensifying its efforts to deepen voter participation and ensure that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. “I urge all eligible citizens to take full advantage of this last phase of the CVR,” Tella stated. “This is your opportunity to ensure your voice is heard in the next election.”
