Three people died and several others were injured after a building under demolition collapsed in Nairobi, trapping workers and prompting renewed safety warnings.
At least three persons were killed after a building under demolition collapsed at Highrise estate in Nairobi on Wednesday, police confirmed.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Issa Mohamud, said the incident trapped no fewer than ten people beneath the rubble.
“Rescuers have confirmed that three people were dead already in the tragedy, while the injured were admitted to hospitals,” he said.
Emergency responders moved quickly to the scene to search for survivors, while those rescued with injuries were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Authorities have since urged construction and demolition operators to strictly comply with safety regulations and approved building standards to prevent similar incidents.
Officials warned that failure to follow proper demolition procedures continues to pose serious risks to workers and nearby residents.
