A major empowerment programme in Anambra saw 150 constituents receive buses, motorcycles and work tools worth over N150 million from Awka North lawmaker Chimezie Ikwunne.
A member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chimezie Ikwunne, has empowered about 150 constituents with shuttle buses, motorcycles and other work tools valued at over N150 million.
The empowerment programme was held on Sunday in Ebenebe, located in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Items distributed during the programme included 15 shuttle buses, 35 motorcycles, 30 grinding machines, 31 hair dryers and 35 sewing machines, alongside cash support for selected beneficiaries.
Ikwunne, who represents Awka North Constituency, said the empowerment initiative was designed to improve the living standards of residents and support grassroots development.
The lawmaker, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from different communities in the constituency.
According to him, they included youths, women, artisans, traders, community leaders and other residents.
“This empowerment is about restoring dignity to rural life, engaging the youths, easing the burden on women and creating a foundation for inclusive development,” he said.
Ikwunne also commended the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, for responding to the needs of Awka North residents through the construction of the Amansea–Awba Ofemili Road.
According to him, the road project has significantly improved the movement of people and agricultural produce between communities.
He noted that the infrastructure development has also boosted agricultural productivity and access to markets within the area.
The lawmaker assured constituents that he would continue to work toward addressing their needs in line with his campaign promises.
“I applied for this job and I rededicate myself to listen more, serve better and work harder,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, commended the lawmaker for what he described as effective representation.
“With this level of empowerment, APGA members are proud of you because this is true representation and it aligns with the solution government,” he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chukwuma Okoye, praised Ikwunne for initiating programmes that directly impact the lives of his constituents.
A community leader, Lawrence Onwuzuka, thanked the lawmaker for prioritising the welfare of the people and pledged continued support from residents.
He also urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their livelihoods.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the empowerment initiative, noting that the support would help strengthen their businesses.
One of them, Ifesinachi Onwunili from Achalla, who received a shuttle bus, said he planned to use it to generate income with the aim of acquiring another vehicle within a year.
Another beneficiary, Theresa Okonkwo, a trader from Ebenebe, said the grinding machine she received would boost her business and enable her provide better support for her family.
