The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urged leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embrace reconciliation and move beyond internal litigations following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria concerning the party’s national convention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the lawmaker said the ruling should serve as an opportunity for the party to restore unity, strengthen internal democracy and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, prolonged legal battles within the party could undermine the aspirations of loyal members who intend to contest elections on the PDP platform.
“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a democratic party that believes in the rule of law, we must now shift our focus from litigation to reconciliation and rebuilding,” she said.
“The strength of our party lies in unity, collective purpose and our shared commitment to providing Nigerians with credible leadership.”
The senator warned that internal disputes should not derail the ambitions of party members across the country who are preparing to contest elections.
She noted that grassroots members aspiring to serve in legislative and executive offices should not become casualties of disagreements among party leaders.
“Our members across the grassroots – those aspiring to serve in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives of Nigeria, the Nigerian Senate, governorship positions and even the presidency – must not become casualties of prolonged disagreements among leaders,” she stated.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also urged party stakeholders to organise an inclusive and credible national convention that complies with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She emphasised that the PDP must demonstrate unity and democratic values to reassure Nigerians of its readiness to lead.
“Nigerians are watching, and we must show that the PDP remains ready and capable of leading the nation forward,” she said.
The senator reaffirmed her commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP, urging members nationwide to remain hopeful as the party prepares for the future.
She added that the party’s leaders must rise above personal interests and prioritise the collective good of both the party and the nation.
