Governor Monday Okpebholo has condemned the recent attack on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin, warning that his administration will not tolerate political violence.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Benin by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Ebojele, the governor expressed sympathy with the affected party members and described the incident as unacceptable.

Okpebholo stressed that politics should centre on performance and meaningful engagement with citizens, rather than intimidation or violence.

“Edo remains a peaceful state, and no one can take that away from us,” he said, urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

The governor called on the police and other security agencies to closely monitor political gatherings and take proactive steps to prevent any escalation of violence.

He warned individuals or groups seeking to destabilise the state that their actions would face firm resistance from the government.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, reportedly involved suspected thugs who allegedly destroyed property and injured party members at the ADC secretariat in Benin.
