Enugu – Friday, February 20, 2026: EEDC confirms a midday system collapse that triggered a widespread blackout across Nigeria’s South-East. Restoration efforts ongoing.
A sudden EEDC blackout disrupted electricity supply across Nigeria’s South-East on Friday after a partial system collapse occurred at about 11:54am.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the development in an official statement dated February 19, 2026. The company said the disturbance affected customers served by its subsidiary firms—MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand—leading to widespread outages across its franchise states.
According to Emeka Ezeh, Group Head of Corporate Communications, the cause of the system collapse has yet to be determined. The company stated it is on standby awaiting restoration of supply and assured customers that efforts are ongoing to normalize the situation. The outage has forced many homes, businesses, and critical service providers to rely on alternative power sources.
Friday’s incident highlights the fragile nature of electricity distribution in the region, where system disturbances can quickly trigger large-scale blackouts. While investigations continue, customers have been urged to remain patient as restoration processes are coordinated.
EEDC apologized for the inconvenience caused and pledged to provide updates as more details emerge regarding the EEDC blackout.
