The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned what it described as persistent billboard vandalism targeting President Bola Tinubu across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday in Gusau, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, warned that the destruction of campaign billboards could escalate political tension and trigger violence ahead of party congresses and the 2027 General Elections.

According to Idris, the Zamfara APC has observed a pattern involving the removal and destruction of billboards bearing the image of the President throughout the state.

“This erratic behaviour has been ongoing over time. It began with a clampdown on all APC billboards until the party petitioned security agencies,” he stated.

The party further alleged that sponsored thugs were behind the vandalism in an attempt to stir political crisis in the state.

Idris cited a recent incident on Wednesday when individuals allegedly attempted to destroy a billboard installed in front of the Gusau residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle. The billboard reportedly also featured former governor Sen. Abdulaziz Yari.

He said the situation was contained due to the swift intervention of security personnel attached to the residence, preventing further damage.

The APC called on security agencies in Zamfara to take decisive action to stop what it described as continued disrespect and unlawful political provocation.

“Enough is enough. The APC, as a peace-loving party, will not fold its arms and allow some individuals to carry out illegal activities in the name of politics,” Idris said.

The party maintained that it would not tolerate attempts by what it termed selfish politicians to incite political violence in the state.
