The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally flagged off its e-registration exercise in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, marking a significant step in strengthening the party’s grassroots structure across the council.

The exercise, which took place yesterday at Central School, Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, attracted party leaders, government officials, and residents who turned out in large numbers to be captured on the party’s digital membership register.

Addressing supporters and prospective members, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Mr. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, urged residents to align with the APC, citing visible and people-centred projects executed by the Enugu State Government in partnership with the local council.

Ogbodo highlighted key interventions, including several kilometres of strategic road projects such as the Amodu–Akpugo–Akpawfu–Amagunze Road, the construction of smart green schools in all wards, the establishment of Type-II Primary Healthcare Centres, the provision of boreholes, and other community-focused infrastructure.

According to him, these projects reflect a clear governance direction anchored on results, service delivery, and inclusive development under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

“The development our people are seeing today is not theoretical; it is visible and measurable. Roads are opening up our communities, schools are being modernised, healthcare is being taken closer to the people, and basic amenities are improving. These are compelling reasons for our people to align with the Governor and the party driving this transformation,” Ogbodo said.

He described the APC as a platform for consolidating development gains and called on residents to take ownership of the ongoing progress by formally registering as party members.

Speaking to journalists after the flag-off of the e-registration, the Enugu East Zonal Lead for the APC e-registration exercise, Mr. Kelvin Ede, confirmed the successful flag-off of the exercise in Nkanu West.

“Our purpose for coming here was to formally flag off the APC e-registration exercise in Nkanu West Local Government Area, and that has been successfully done. The flag-off took place at Akpugo Ward II, the hometown of the incumbent Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo,” Ede stated.

He noted that enthusiasm for the exercise was evident even before the ceremony concluded.

“Before the end of the flag-off, many residents had already registered. Within the next 48 hours, we expect a significant surge in registrations, with projections running into hundreds of thousands across Nkanu West,” he added.

Ede attributed the growing interest to the performance of Governor Mbah’s administration.

“Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has delivered smart schools and Type-II health centres in every ward, alongside major infrastructural and developmental projects across the state. These achievements are visible and speak for themselves. Naturally, the people of Nkanu West are ready to support the APC and be part of this development trajectory,” he said.

Earlier, the APC Chairman in Akpugo Ward II, Mr. Emeka Paul Benjamin, welcomed party leaders and stakeholders, describing the event as historic for the ward and the local government.

He commended the party leadership for choosing Akpugo Ward II for the flag-off and assured that party members at the grassroots would mobilise extensively to ensure the success of the e-registration exercise.

Also speaking, the APC Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Onovo, described the exercise as a strategic milestone that would reposition the party ahead of future political engagements.

Onovo urged party members to embrace unity, discipline, and sustained mobilisation, stressing that a strong and credible membership database would enhance internal democracy and effective party organisation.

The highlight of the event was the biometric capture and registration of Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo as APC member number 001 in Nkanu West LGA, symbolising leadership by example and commitment to the party’s growth at the grassroots.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Engr. Friday Nnam; the Secretary of the Council, Prince Onochie Igwesi, Esq.; the Nkanu West APC E-Registration Administrator, Chidi Ani, Esq., alongside ward executives, party stakeholders, and community leaders.
