The Oyo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 20-year-old man, Seidu Amisu, at Budo Fatti area of Ofiki Village in the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Ibadan.
According to Olayinka, the incident stemmed from a disagreement over issues relating to cattle rearing between the deceased and three of the suspects. He said the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation during which one of the suspects allegedly beat Amisu to death with a stick.
“Upon realising that the victim had died, the suspects, in a bid to conceal the murder, allegedly enlisted the assistance of four other accomplices and secretly buried the deceased without the knowledge of his family or the police,” Olayinka stated.
The police spokesperson explained that the Divisional Police Officer of the Ago-Are Division received a complaint concerning the incident and immediately launched an intelligence-led investigation.
He said the investigation led to the arrest of all seven suspects involved in the alleged murder and cover-up.
“The suspects are currently in custody and have confessed to committing the offence. They are also cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation,” Olayinka added.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Femi Haruna, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for thorough and discreet investigation into the murder case.
