National convention preparations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been reaffirmed as non-negotiable, with the party insisting that Saturday’s Ibadan gathering will proceed as planned.
Chairman of the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Fintiri, made the declaration while briefing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja. He stressed that the national convention remains sacrosanct and will not be altered.
The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, brought together major power blocs of the party, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees, all aligning behind the upcoming national convention.
Fintiri told reporters that extensive decisions were taken to ensure a smooth and credible national convention in Ibadan.
Prominent figures at the meeting included Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Also present was former Minister Tanimu Turaki, the consensus candidate for the position of national chairman ahead of the convention.
Other key attendees included Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) and Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, Chairman of the PDP South-South Caretaker Committee, among several others, all reinforcing the party’s united stance as the convention approaches.
